Sunday II
A historical painting based on a diary account from the Sino-Japanese war. Two partisans, a man and woman, are captured. The man is executed and the woman then offers herself up for death. The viewer stands in the place of the executioner.
This work is concerned with telling the narrative, but also with the realistic perspective and depth of the scene. The large-scale painting is monochrome and on two canvases (diptych).
